Music has been in James Quinlan’s blood his entire life. Learning piano and viola in grade school, James found a natural connection with the bass as soon as he saw his first upright in high school. This love has transformed into a career in music and an education at the University of Miami. There he found a wide collection of ensembles to participate in as well as courses to study from and talented friends to collaborate with. In May 2011, James graduated from the University with a BFA in Studio Music and Jazz Bass Performance from the studio of Donald Coffman and Charles Bergeron.

A native of Miami, James thrives in all cultures. This led to him playing in a variety of groups from symphony to salsa, jazz to world, rock to hip-hop, and everything in between. Looking to expand his creative possibilities, James has recently relocated to New York City.
